Stewart, Cooper & Coon Staff Profiles

For those of you who are not Stewart, Cooper & Coon team members, I thought you might like to learn more about the wonderful staff we have, their backgrounds and their interests. Each issue, we will present a profile of one or two team members so you can get to know our entire team better.

Barbara Kelly
Barbara moved to Arizona 2 years ago to retire. After one and a half years of outfitting her new home, she felt the need to make a contribution. In July 2005 Barbara joined the Stewart, Cooper & Coon team as Client Placement Specialist. She was drawn to our company mostly due to the professional, sophisticated and multiple tools that we provide our employees and clients.

Most of her clients live in the Midwest or out east; this allows her, an early riser, to begin calls at 6 am and do her lap swimming by 10 am. When friends at the pool see her coming, they say "it must be lunch time in Texas." According to Barbara: "It has been a totally fun, and I am happy to say, successful experience for me, and my 9 clients."

Kristine Barney
Kristine Barney was recently asked to become a member of the Stewart, Cooper & Coon Executive Committee. Not only because of her excellent education and background, but because of her absolute dedication to customer service and seeing that our candidates' interests are well served. Kristine has a background in Human Resources and holds an undergraduate degree in Social Sciences from Cal State Northridge.

For two years, she has worked at SC&C and now holds the title of Vice President, Executive Evaluations. In addition, she was recently asked to work closely with the newly appointed Director of Client Placement, a division that really sets SC&C apart from other recruiting firms by placing calls to the hiring authorities at a client's target companies to get their resume in front of the hiring authority which ultimately will lead to interviews.

Her whole focus is ensuring that the potential SC&C client gets the follow-through that they deserve. Her key role in determining if a job seeker fits the stringent SC&C selection criteria, coupled with her excellent business acumen, has made Kristine a valuable asset to our company. Kristine enjoys working with potential clients. She says, “I like being able to help executives find their next great career.”

Kathy Calloway
Kathy joined Stewart, Cooper & Coon in July 2005 as New Business Development Specialist and lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and four year old son. Kathy has an extensive background in Recruiting. She started her career at the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School, where she met her husband who was in competition to recruit more students. She continued her career as Recruiter / Hiring Manager at Prudential, IT Recruiting, and Macy’s.

Kathy has a message which is to never give up on cold calling. She had spoken to the President of a company who was in need of new candidates and referred her to speak with the Human Resource Manager. After having left several messages and not received an answer, she once again left a message asking whether the HR Manager was indeed still at the firm. Finally, she spoke with the President again who pulled the necessary strings and Kathy finally got a returned phone call from the HR person. Persistence does pay off, as that firm now has 7 open positions posted with us.

Darlene Dassy
After being laid off from her position as Quality Control Manager during a corporate downsizing, Darlene Dassy decided to launch her own resume business in May. Combining her passion for resumes and enjoyment in writing has allowed her to work from home where she also writes executive resumes for Stewart, Cooper and Coon. Her job with Stewart, Cooper and Coon begins when she receives via e-mail the worksheets, which can run from 25 to 50 pages, from the coach who works with the client. Once she gets the worksheet, she pulls the relevant information out, and puts it into a format that will grab the attention of those who see it, a design that is eye-catching and makes a good impression. The worksheet and resume work together to groom the client for the interview by allowing them to remember key details of past experiences and jobs, but not needing to cover an entire life history. In the seven days she gets to write up a resume, she will work on it at least three times.

The most important element in executive resumes is discussing what accomplishments the client has had during their career progression and the SHARE stories set the stage for remembering those details during the interview process. She displays her passion for resumes when she discusses what a resume should accomplish. It should “pique the interest” of the hiring company in the form of selling versus telling, but shouldn’t tell a whole life story. It should be an overview, without giving all the detail. It is more important to have an organized, concise resume than to list everything, especially if it not pertinent to the job for which one is applying.

During her interactions with potential clients in her own business, some people do not understand the true value of a professionally written and designed resume versus having your resume typed as previously accustomed to. Darlene reminds them that a resume is an investment in their future. It will cost something, but they will get a return on the investment.

Darlene is a Certified Expert Resume Writer and a Certified Resume Writer. She is a member of Career Directors International and has her BBA from Ursinus College. She has been working with Stewart, Cooper and Coon since April 2005, and is able to work from her home in Pennsylvania.
